Our own dream Home Makeover Project transformed from an exciting adventure to a House-of-Horrors nightmare. If you’re a Homeowner and you’re contemplating a Home Makeover Project, a renovation or remodelling, then you already know how often home build projects go bad. And you should be asking yourself, “what must I do so I don’t end up with a horror story ?” Disastrous projects happen over and over and they can happen to anyone.
To hear my story of how I nearly lost my shirt on my own catastrophic Home Makeover Project, please listen to Episode 1 of my new Podcast – Home Makeover Project Secrets.
When I refer to "Home Makeovers", I include renovation, remodelling, alterations, additions, going up into attics and down into basements, redevelopments and even ground up new builds. Any and every project where you're going to be appointing professionals, designing something, buying materials, carrying out construction work, employing contractors and sub-contractors, suppliers and manufacturers and even if you're doing some or all of the work yourself. All things home build.
Despite being a Professional Construction Project Manager, I made the mistake of doing what most Homeowners do – I tried to wing it, to muddle through. My approach was haphazard, I was trying to fly by the seat of my pants. And, no surprise, I crashed and nearly burned.
To get out of the deep dark hole I was in, I had to chain everything - I needed a focused but simple, step-by-step, no-brainer strategy. So I modelled the effective strategies I’d been using for Clients over many years, identifying the right steps, in the most effective sequence to get my project back on track and ultimately to complete it successfully.
And I worked out how to save money and time along the way while still achieving the high-quality standard we were aiming for.
From that point, everything changed! I closed out the remodelling works, I completed the fit-out and gave my family the wonderful home we had been dreaming about.
I’ve leveraged the lessons learned from my tough, “school-of-hard-knocks” experience to help others to avoid the pitfalls and problems that nearly crushed us. And I know the secrets that can save anyone money and time on any home makeover project.
And that's why I'm so passionate about sharing and teaching "Home Makeover Project Skills" to Home Owners. I want you to avoid all the anxiety and embarrassment, frustration and disappointment that so many Home Owners unnecessarily suffer.
And I want you to experience the joy and satisfaction of successfully executing your own Makeover projects.
I’m delighted to share all the insider information, expert knowledge, insight and understanding about the processes and what's really going on behind the scenes. And what to do so things don’t go wrong.
Anyone can learn to do this, no prior experience necessary, it's not rocket science.
Everything I'll be sharing will apply to all kinds of home build projects. Best of all, the skills and knowledge you'll learn here are evergreen - and you can use and apply them over and over on multiple projects. Saving money and time, every time.
While there are variations in construction materials, techniques and laws in different locations and regions, you'll be able to use what you learn here and apply them in your own country, city or town, wherever you may be.
Each week we’ll focus on typical project problems and then learn how you can overcome them.
